Breel Embolo close to Atlanta United transfer

Breel Embolo is reportedly close to leaving Stade Rennes for Atlanta United in Major League Soccer.

According to Ouest-France, the Swiss international has agreed to continue his career in the United States, with the final details of the transfer now being completed.

Rennes are expected to receive approximately €15 million for the 29-year-old striker, despite his contract having three years remaining. The French club would therefore secure a significant fee for a player who joined their squad with considerable experience from both the Bundesliga and international football.

Embolo attracted interest from several clubs during the transfer window. Premier League newcomers Hull City and Ipswich Town reportedly considered moves, while teams from Serie A also followed the forward’s situation. However, Atlanta United appear to have won the race for his signature.

The transfer would give Embolo a fresh challenge after his spell in Ligue 1. Known for his power, pace and ability to play across the frontline, he could become an important attacking figure in Atlanta’s plans.

Unless an unexpected complication emerges, Embolo will soon begin a new chapter in MLS. His departure would leave Rennes with funds to reinvest, while Atlanta would gain an experienced forward capable of making an immediate impact.
