Borussia Dortmund contact Barcelona over Hector Fort as €20m asking price set

Borussia Dortmund have contacted Barcelona to explore a possible deal for Hector Fort, with the Catalan club demanding either €20m for a permanent transfer or €10m while retaining 50% of any future sale, according to Sky Sport.

No formal offer has yet been made by Borussia Dortmund for the Barcelona full-back. The German club are assessing the financial conditions and the wider situation before deciding whether to proceed with a bid.

Barcelona have outlined two possible structures for Fort’s departure. They would accept €20m to sell the player outright, while an alternative agreement would involve an initial payment of €10m and a clause allowing Barcelona to receive half of any future transfer fee.

Fort spent last season on loan at Elche in La Liga and returned to Barcelona after the campaign ended. He made 17 appearances for Elche, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Elche finished 15th in La Liga last season with 43 points.

Barcelona have been continuing their preparations for the new campaign and have played four pre-season matches so far. They began with a 4-1 victory over Europa before drawing 2-2 with Birmingham City. Barcelona then won the subsequent penalty shootout 3-2.

In a three-team tournament consisting of one half per match, Barcelona beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 but lost 1-0 to Udinese.

Their next friendly will be against Basel in Switzerland on Sunday. Barcelona will complete their preparations for the new season against Al Ahly in the Joan Gamper Trophy at Camp Nou next Wednesday.

Barcelona finished as champions of La Liga in each of the past two seasons, ending both campaigns above Real Madrid in the table.

Their opening fixture of the current La Liga season will instead take place in the second round, when they travel to face Elche on Sunday, 23 August. The first-round match against Athletic Club was postponed because a large number of Barcelona players were involved in the final stages of the World Cup.

The rearranged opening-round fixture against Athletic Club will be played on Thursday, 27 August, at Camp Nou.

Fort’s future is therefore still undecided, with Dortmund yet to turn their interest into an official proposal. Barcelona’s two-part valuation gives the Bundesliga club a choice between paying a higher fee to secure the player permanently or reducing the initial cost while leaving the Catalan side with a significant financial interest in any later transfer.
