Newcastle United target Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba
Newcastle United are reportedly considering Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba as they search for a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes.
According to the Daily Mail, the 22-year-old has emerged as a possible target after Guimaraes completed a move to Arsenal.
Baleba was previously linked strongly with Manchester United, but the reported asking price of around 77.3 million pounds appeared to make a deal too expensive. Those demands could also complicate Newcastle’s pursuit, although the midfielder’s profile remains attractive to clubs looking for strength, energy and technical quality in the centre of the pitch.
Newcastle have experienced significant changes in midfield this summer. Alongside Guimaraes’ departure, Sandro Tonali has reportedly joined Tottenham, leaving the squad short of established options. The club has added young players Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba, but may still want a more experienced Premier League-ready midfielder.
Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and has since made 112 appearances for the English club. His current contract runs until the summer of 2028, giving Brighton a strong negotiating position if Newcastle decide to make a formal offer.
For now, Baleba remains only a reported option, but his powerful style and Premier League experience could make him a logical candidate to help rebuild Newcastle’s midfield.
