Saad Samir asks Egyptian FA to suspend Modern Sport registrations over unpaid wages

Saad Samir has asked the Egyptian Football Association to suspend Modern Sport’s player registrations, claiming the club has failed to pay money owed to him for more than two years.

The former Modern Sport defender says he has been pursuing the outstanding payments since his contract with the club ended, but has yet to receive the money despite decisions from football authorities confirming his entitlement.

Samir, who announced his retirement from playing at the end of last season, is now football director at Ceramica Cleopatra. He made the request in a statement published on his official social media account.

“More than two years after my contract with Modern Sport ended, I still have not received the money owed to me by the club,” Samir wrote.

He said he had taken the dispute to the Players’ Affairs Committee in an attempt to recover his dues.

“To obtain my rights, I turned to the Players’ Affairs Committee, which issued a decision confirming that I was entitled to my financial dues,” he said. “That decision was also upheld by the Grievances Committee. Despite the decision being issued and upheld, the club has still not paid the amounts owed to me to this day.”

Samir added that he had exhausted the available options before approaching the national governing body.

“After exhausting the available avenues, I submitted a request to the Egyptian Football Association to suspend the club’s registration until the decision is implemented and my financial dues are paid,” he said.

The former Egypt international ended his statement by expressing confidence that the association would act on the ruling.

“I have confidence in the Egyptian Football Association, and I trust that it will carry out its role and take the necessary measures to ensure that the decision is implemented and that I receive all of my dues,” Samir wrote.

Samir retired after a 14-year playing career in which he won 26 trophies with Al Ahly. He also claimed two Egyptian League Cup titles during his time with Ceramica Cleopatra.

The defender represented Tala’ea El Gaish, Al Ahly, Al Mokawloon Al Arab, Al Masry, Ceramica Cleopatra and Modern Sport during his club career.

He also played for Egypt’s youth team at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which was held in Cairo, and made 10 appearances for the senior national team.

Samir’s request comes after the Players’ Affairs Committee and the Grievances Committee both ruled in his favour over the unpaid amounts. His appeal to the Egyptian Football Association is seeking a registration suspension for Modern Sport until the club fulfils its financial obligations.
