Mohamed Salah transfer brings fresh tourism focus to Trabzon

The arrival of Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor has already created a significant new tourism opportunity for the Turkish city, according to Erkut Celebi, president of the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Celebi said Salah’s move had prompted strong interest in visiting Trabzon, with demand coming not only from Egypt but also from several countries across North Africa. The city is now looking to turn that attention into a broader tourism benefit that can be sustained throughout the year.

Speaking to 61saat, a website focused on news from Trabzon, Celebi explained that the city’s hotels typically experience their busiest period during only three or four months of the year. Occupancy levels then fall outside that peak season, creating a challenge for the local tourism industry.

The increased interest surrounding Salah and Trabzonspor is therefore being viewed as a new attraction that could help extend the season. Local authorities and businesses are seeking to use the attention generated by the Egyptian forward to encourage more visitors beyond the traditional busy period.

The scale of the response has been linked directly to Salah’s profile and his popularity in Egypt and North Africa. His transfer has given Trabzon an additional source of international visibility, while also creating interest around the city’s football club.

Celebi said the priority was to make use of that interest rather than allow it to remain limited to the period immediately following the transfer. By building on the new demand, Trabzon hopes to strengthen tourism across more months of the calendar and reduce its dependence on a short annual peak.

Trabzonspor announced last Thursday that it had signed Salah on a free transfer. The agreement is for two seasons and followed the end of his contract with Liverpool at the conclusion of last season.
