Mohamed Fares offered to JS Kabylie as Algeria international seeks career revival

Mohamed Fares has reportedly been offered to JS Kabylie as the Algerian club continues to assess potential reinforcements during the transfer window.

The 30-year-old left-back remains under contract with Serie A club Lazio, but his representatives are understood to have presented his profile to the Kabylie side, who are now considering whether to pursue the opportunity.

According to Lazio’s official channel, Fares’ entourage has contacted JS Kabylie with a view to finding the player a fresh start after several difficult seasons. A return to Algeria could offer the former international a chance to rebuild his career and secure more regular playing time.

Fares joined Lazio in 2020 after establishing himself as an experienced player in European football. However, he has never managed to secure a regular place in the Rome club’s team. His total appearances for Lazio have numbered only around 20, with the majority of his recent career spent away from the club on loan.

His latest spell took him to the United Arab Emirates, where he played for second-division side Forte Virtus FC. Having returned to Lazio, Fares is still not thought to be part of the Italian club’s plans and is now seeking a permanent solution that would allow him to move on.

For JS Kabylie, the potential signing would represent an attractive option, particularly as the club looks to strengthen a squad undergoing reconstruction. Fares can operate either as a conventional left-back or as a left wing-back, offering tactical flexibility as well as substantial experience at domestic and European level.

He is also a member of the Algeria squad that won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations under Djamel Belmadi. That achievement remains the highlight of his international career, although he has not played for the national team for several years.

Fares’ last appearance for Algeria came in 2021. A lack of regular football at club level gradually pushed him further away from international selection, leaving a return to his home country as a possible opportunity to revive both his club and international prospects.

His potential move comes as JS Kabylie pursue an ambitious long-term project. The club recently inaugurated the Mohand Cherif Hannachi training and development centre in Yakouren, a facility presented as part of its plans to establish a stronger and more sustainable structure.

The Kabylie club has also been linked with Algeria international goalkeeper Alexis Guendouz, suggesting that it is monitoring several national-team players who are looking for a new opportunity.

For now, Fares’ possible move to JS Kabylie remains at the assessment stage. The club has yet to decide whether its interest will develop into formal negotiations, while the player continues to look for a permanent destination after years of limited involvement at Lazio and a series of loan spells.

At 30, a return to Algeria could give the former Fennec the stability and regular football he has struggled to find in recent seasons.
