Sebastian Pedersen takes part in Orlando Pirates training before AmaZulu test

Orlando Pirates have offered a positive update on Sebastian Pedersen by including the Norwegian striker in training ahead of Wednesday evening’s Betway Premiership meeting with AmaZulu FC.

Pedersen joined the Buccaneers from Norwegian club Sogndal Fotball last month, but the 27-year-old has yet to play a competitive match for the Soweto side.

His arrival has attracted considerable attention, although head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has previously stressed that Pirates would not hurry the forward into action before he was ready.

That situation may now be moving forward. Pirates published photographs from their “INSIDE TRAINING MD-2” session on social media, with Pedersen among the players shown taking part.

The appearance is notable because there has been no confirmed date for his competitive debut since his move to the club. His involvement in preparations for the trip to Durban represents a step forward, although it does not guarantee that he will be selected to face AmaZulu.

Pirates travel to Kings Park Stadium on Wednesday evening as they return to Betway Premiership action following a dramatic MTN8 quarter-final victory over Durban City.

The Buccaneers were made to work hard against 10-man Durban City at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday before eventually securing a 2-1 win with a late decisive effort.

Attention has now switched back to the league, where Pirates will be aiming to continue their campaign while also defending their Betway Premiership title and competing on several fronts this season.

Pedersen signed a two-year contract with Orlando Pirates after leaving Sogndal Fotball. The agreement includes an option for the club to extend his stay by another season.

The Norwegian’s transfer has generated plenty of excitement among Pirates supporters, who are waiting to see what he can offer once he is cleared to make his first appearance.

His presence in the latest training images suggests he is becoming more integrated into the squad, but there has been no indication that he is certain to feature against AmaZulu, who are also known as Usuthu.

The decision on whether Pedersen is involved will remain with Ouaddou and the Pirates coaching staff. Wednesday’s match could therefore provide the long-awaited opportunity for the former Sogndal forward to make his debut, but his participation remains uncertain.
