Ferran Torres set to leave Barcelona as Paris Saint-Germain deal reaches final stage

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are close to reaching a final agreement over the transfer of Ferran Torres, with negotiations having advanced significantly in recent hours and an official announcement expected soon.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Barcelona rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s opening offer for the Spain international on Monday. The proposal was worth €50m in total, made up of a fixed fee and performance-related additions.

The two clubs have continued discussions and have narrowed the gap between their respective positions. Barcelona are seeking €50m as a guaranteed payment, with a further amount to be added through agreed variables.

Talks have moved quickly, to the extent that some of those involved already regard the agreement as effectively settled, even though the transfer has not yet been formally announced.

Ferran Torres’ move to Paris Saint-Germain is now considered very close to completion. Those involved believe that only a few hours may be needed before the clubs confirm the deal publicly.

From an informal perspective, the transfer is already being treated as a reality after negotiations progressed to a stage that led some parties to view the operation as concluded.

Legally, however, the agreement has not yet been fully completed. A number of details still need to be resolved between the clubs. Although those outstanding matters are not initially expected to prevent the transfer, they must still be finalised before the deal can be officially closed.

Torres has one season remaining on his Barcelona contract and has already agreed the terms of a new deal with Luis Enrique’s side. The only remaining step is the final approval of the transfer fee between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, which is expected shortly.

Luis Campos and Deco, the sporting directors of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona respectively, have been leading negotiations over the value of the transfer for several days.

Torres informed Barcelona last week that he had decided to accept Paris Saint-Germain’s offer. The Catalan club accepted the player’s position but made clear that they would only approve his departure for the financial terms they were seeking.

Their valuation is €50m as a fixed fee, with an additional sum dependent on variables agreed by the two clubs. Paris Saint-Germain’s initial proposal did not meet those demands, prompting Barcelona to reject it before talks continued.

The negotiations have since made substantial progress, with the difference between the clubs’ positions regarded as manageable. That improvement has fuelled expectations that the transfer will be announced officially in the near future, ending Torres’ time at Barcelona and taking him to Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain.
