Al Nassr transfer plans clarified as Saudi league sets out financial safeguards

The Roshn Saudi League has explained why Al Nassr were permitted to make new signings during the summer transfer window despite reports that the club has outstanding financial obligations.

Omar Batrji, the official spokesperson for the Professional League, said at a news conference on Monday that the existence of financial commitments does not automatically prevent a club from registering new players. Permission can still be granted if the club provides documents demonstrating that it is capable of meeting those obligations.

Batrji said Al Nassr had been required to submit a clear schedule setting out its outstanding financial commitments, in the same way as every other club in the league. The club also had to show that no financial shortfall would undermine its ability to complete the new deals it had agreed.

The league spokesperson added that approval to make signings is also dependent on the submission of financial guarantees. Those guarantees must demonstrate that the club can meet the obligations created by its new contracts, allowing the transfer transactions to proceed.

The clarification means that reports of debts or other financial commitments do not, by themselves, prevent Al Nassr from recruiting players. The determining factor is whether the club has fulfilled the financial requirements imposed by the relevant authorities and provided the guarantees needed to support its planned spending.

Al Nassr’s activity comes as the club works to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season. The Saudi side has already completed a number of transfer-related arrangements, but continued questions among supporters about its financial position have raised doubts over whether it would be able to maintain its level of spending in the market.

The league’s explanation was intended to settle that debate by distinguishing between the existence of financial liabilities and an inability to pay them. Under the position outlined by Batrji, a club may continue to negotiate and register players provided it can document its obligations, demonstrate that there is no damaging financial gap and offer guarantees covering the commitments arising from its latest contracts.

That framework applies to Al Nassr in the same way as it does to the other clubs in the competition. The club’s permission to complete summer deals therefore reflects its compliance with the required procedures, rather than an indication that it has no financial obligations.

The comments follow growing interest in Al Nassr’s next squad and the club’s plans for the coming campaign. They also provide the league’s clearest explanation to date of why the club has been allowed to continue its transfer business while financial concerns remain part of the public discussion.
