Barcelona reject €40m Paris Saint-Germain bid for Ferran Torres

Barcelona have rejected an opening offer of €40m from Paris Saint-Germain for Ferran Torres, according to Mundo Deportivo, with the French club expected to return with an improved proposal.

Torres has already reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over a move, but the two clubs still need to settle the final terms of the transfer. Negotiations are continuing between Barcelona sporting director Deco and his Paris Saint-Germain counterpart Luis Campos, according to Marca.

The deal could be completed within the next few days. If an agreement is reached, Torres’ start to Barcelona’s preparations for the new season could be delayed while the transfer is finalised.

The Spain international wants to join Paris Saint-Germain for the 2026-27 campaign, and Barcelona are not opposed to the move. Discussions between the clubs have advanced, with the transfer now appearing increasingly close to completion.

Barcelona’s decision to reject the first offer does not necessarily signal a change in their position over Torres’ future. Instead, the club is believed to be waiting for Paris Saint-Germain to improve the financial terms before approving the transfer.

Torres played an important role in Spain’s success at the 2026 World Cup. He scored the winning goal in the 106th minute of the second period of extra time as Spain secured the trophy.

The forward has scored 25 goals in 65 appearances for La Roja. His international record has added to his value as negotiations continue over a possible move to the French champions.

Torres finished last season as Barcelona’s top scorer, scoring 16 goals for the Catalan club. His goals helped Barcelona win La Liga for a second successive season after a title race against Real Madrid.

Barcelona also retained the Spanish Super Cup, beating Real Madrid 3-2 in the final. It was their second consecutive triumph in the competition.

The club are due to begin the new season against Elche in the opening round of La Liga. The match will be played at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero.

A possible transfer could therefore affect Torres’ involvement in Barcelona’s initial preparations, depending on how quickly the negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain are concluded. For now, the clubs remain apart after Barcelona turned down the €40m opening bid, while further talks are expected in the coming days.
