Algerian Amine Gouiri ranks above Didier Drogba in Marseille scoring record

Amine Gouiri has established one of the most efficient scoring records in Olympique de Marseille’s recent history, with the Algeria international currently ranking ahead of Didier Drogba for goals-per-minute among the club’s prolific 21st-century scorers.

Gouiri’s impressive numbers come at a time of uncertainty at Marseille, with the club dealing with disappointing results and financial difficulties that have reportedly opened the possibility of several players leaving.

The former Rennes forward has also been linked with that uncertainty. Asked about his future, Gouiri acknowledged that his position at the club could change.

“I’ve heard that the door is open for everyone. For now, I’m here, I’m focused on my preparation, and we’ll see what happens next.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Gouiri’s contribution since joining Marseille has remained significant.

The Algerian arrived at the club in January 2025 and has gone on to make 42 appearances in all competitions. During that time, he has scored 21 goals and supplied eight assists.

His scoring efficiency has placed him second among Marseille’s most prolific goalscorers in the 21st century, considering players who have scored at least 20 goals for the club.

Gouiri has scored once every 131 minutes for Marseille, a rate which sees him narrowly edge ahead of former Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba.

Drogba scored 32 goals during his time with Marseille, averaging one goal every 132 minutes. While the former Marseille forward has a higher overall goal tally, Gouiri’s current scoring rate gives him the better minutes-per-goal figure.

Only Arkadiusz Milik has produced a more efficient record among the players included in the ranking. The Polish striker scored 30 goals at a rate of one every 126 minutes.

Gouiri’s figures therefore underline the impact he has made since arriving at Marseille, despite the club’s current difficulties and questions over his future.

With Marseille reportedly prepared to consider departures as it deals with its financial situation, the possibility of losing a forward who has consistently provided goals and assists presents a difficult sporting decision.
