Ferran Torres transfer: Paris Saint-Germain face Barcelona’s €65m valuation

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are preparing for decisive talks over a possible move for Ferran Torres to the French capital, with the Spain forward wanting to leave Camp Nou and join Ligue 1.

However, negotiations are expected to be difficult because the two clubs have very different views of the player’s value. Barcelona are seeking at least €65m for Torres, while Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to use the approaching end of his contract to negotiate a substantially lower fee.

Torres’ current deal with Barcelona runs until 30 June 2027. Paris Saint-Germain believe that contract situation gives them a strong position, particularly because the player is approaching the final stages of his commitment to the Catalan club.

Barcelona’s asking price

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Barcelona are refusing to consider an offer below €65m for the 25-year-old. The club want to use the proceeds from his sale to help finance the arrival of one or two forwards capable of filling the space created by his departure.

Barcelona had initially been reluctant to sell Torres before securing a suitable replacement. His decision to seek a move, however, has prompted the club’s hierarchy to change its stance and enter serious negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona officials believe the proposed fee reflects the current transfer market for forwards. They also point to Torres’ impressive performance at the most recent World Cup, which they feel significantly improved his market value.

That assessment is higher than the figure Paris Saint-Germain are currently prepared to pay. The French champions do not intend to move close to Barcelona’s €65m demand, instead relying on the length of Torres’ remaining contract to push for a discount.

Paris Saint-Germain weighing offer structure

Despite that position, Paris Saint-Germain recognise that they will need to make a serious opening proposal if they are to begin discussions without damaging their relationship with Barcelona.

Torres’ current market valuation is estimated at about €55m. Paris Saint-Germain could potentially reach that level through a deal combining a guaranteed payment with additional performance-related clauses.

That figure would also match the amount Barcelona paid Manchester City to sign Torres. A sale at that level would therefore allow Barcelona to recover their original investment in full.

The negotiations could be helped by the strong relationship between Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, and Luis Campos, his counterpart at Paris Saint-Germain.

Sport reports that the two executives’ close relationship may be decisive in speeding up the process and helping the clubs reach an agreement within the next few days.

The immediate challenge remains the gap between Barcelona’s €65m demand and Paris Saint-Germain’s intention to take advantage of Torres’ contract situation. Talks are expected to determine whether the clubs can bridge that difference and settle the forward’s future.
