Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane joins Al-Shamal from Al Ahly for €695,000

Tunisia midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane has traded Cairo for Qatar after joining Al-Shamal from Al Ahly in a €695,000 transfer.

The 26-year-old central midfielder made the move to the Qatar Stars League club on 9 August and will continue his career with Al-Shamal, who have secured his services after his spell in Egypt. Ben Romdhane’s arrival follows a 2025-26 season in which he won the Egyptian Super Cup with Al Ahly.

Ben Romdhane brings extensive domestic and continental experience to his new club, having collected honours in Tunisia, Hungary and Egypt. He won the CAF Champions League with Esperance Tunis in the 2018-19 season and helped the club claim five Tunisian league titles between 2017-18 and 2021-22.

His time in Hungary also produced back-to-back league championships with Ferencvarosi TC in 2023-24 and 2024-25. He scored twice in the first of those title-winning campaigns and three goals in the second, adding attacking contributions from central midfield.

The Tunis-born player returned to Al Ahly before making the switch to Qatar, having established a career across three different leagues. His preferred position is in central midfield, and he is listed as right-footed and 1.85m tall.

The move gives Al-Shamal a midfielder with a record of winning major domestic honours and experience of competing for silverware in North Africa and Europe. It also marks the latest stage of a career that began at Esperance, where Ben Romdhane developed into a regular presence in Tunisian football before moving abroad.

Ben Romdhane is now contracted to Al-Shamal until 30 June 2029.
