Golden Arrows sign Zimbabwe international Jonah Fabisch ahead of 2026-27 season

Golden Arrows have completed the signing of Zimbabwe international midfielder Jonah Fabisch, bringing an end to several weeks of speculation over the 24-year-old’s future.

The Betway Premiership club announced the move on social media on Saturday, confirming that the former Germany-based playmaker will join the team ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Fabisch moves to South Africa as a free agent after his contract with German third-tier club Erzgebirge Aue expired. He has spent the past two weeks in South Africa while working towards securing his next club.

The transfer represents the first time Fabisch will play in the South African top flight. His entire professional career to date has been spent in Germany, where he developed through the Hamburger SV youth system.

He subsequently played for Hamburger SV II, 1. FC Magdeburg II and Erzgebirge Aue before making the move to the Betway Premiership.

Fabisch was born in Nairobi, Kenya, and is also eligible to represent Germany. However, he opted to play international football for Zimbabwe because of his mother’s heritage.

He became a higher-profile player after an impressive showing for Zimbabwe at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Fabisch started all three of his country’s group-stage fixtures, against Egypt, Angola and South Africa.

He also provided an assist during Zimbabwe’s narrow defeat by South Africa, known as Bafana Bafana.

The midfielder’s performances at the tournament helped generate increased interest in his signature, with Kaizer Chiefs among the clubs reported to have been linked with him.

However, reports suggested that Amakhosi were not actively pursuing a deal, allowing Golden Arrows to move into pole position and ultimately secure his services.

Fabisch arrives at the club following the departure of Isaac Cisse, who has joined Royal Charleroi. Golden Arrows see the Zimbabwe international as an ideal box-to-box midfield replacement for the teenage Ivory Coast sensation.

His arrival gives the club an experienced option in midfield as they prepare for the new Betway Premiership season. Fabisch’s background in German football, together with his international experience for Zimbabwe, adds to the significance of Golden Arrows’ recruitment.

The signing also concludes a period of uncertainty surrounding his next move after leaving Erzgebirge Aue. Having spent the past fortnight in South Africa, Fabisch has now secured a return to competitive football with Golden Arrows and will begin the next stage of his career in the country’s top division.
