Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi completes Coventry City move after breakthrough season in Denmark

Ghana international midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has completed a transfer to Coventry City FC ahead of the new Premier League season, subject to international clearance.

The 19-year-old joins the Sky Blues on a long-term contract from Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjaelland, with the transfer fee remaining undisclosed.

Yirenkyi arrives at Coventry City following a remarkable rise in both club and international football. The talented midfielder was one of Ghana’s standout performers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he partnered Brandon Thomas-Asante in the Black Stars’ attack and scored the dramatic winning goal in Ghana’s victory over Panama.

The youngster has already earned 15 caps for the senior national team, with his rapid development earning him recognition as one of Ghana’s brightest emerging talents.

A graduate of the renowned Right to Dream Academy, Yirenkyi moved to FC Nordsjaelland in 2024 and made his senior debut for the Danish club in September of that year at just 18 years old.

He quickly became a key figure in the Nordsjaelland squad, playing a crucial role during the 2025/26 campaign. The Ghanaian featured in 34 matches as the club secured a third-place finish in the Danish Superliga and qualified for the UEFA Conference League.

His outstanding performances throughout the season earned him several individual accolades, including the Danish Superliga Young Player of the Year award. He was also named in the league’s 2025/26 Team of the Year.

Coventry City will now hope Yirenkyi can continue his impressive development as he takes the next step in his career in England, with the midfielder expected to bring creativity, energy and attacking quality to the Sky Blues’ squad.
