Reigning Ivorian Ligue 1 champions ASEC Mimosas have started the 2026/27 season on a perfect note after securing their first trophy of the campaign.

The Ivorian giants defeated CO Korhogo in the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Super Cup on Thursday, August 6, to add another piece of silverware to their impressive history.

The highly anticipated encounter was played at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium, with ASEC Mimosas facing the Ivorian National Cup winners in a clash between the country’s two domestic champions.

ASEC entered the game as favourites after their dominant Ligue 1 campaign, but CO Korhogo proved to be a difficult opponent and kept the champions from finding their rhythm during the early stages of the match.

The first half was a closely contested affair, with both teams showing determination and discipline. ASEC Mimosas controlled possession and created several attacking opportunities, but CO Korhogo remained organised defensively and managed to frustrate their opponents.

Despite the numerous attempts from both sides, neither team was able to break the deadlock before the interval, leaving the game finely balanced heading into the second half.

However, ASEC Mimosas returned from the break with renewed energy and eventually found the breakthrough.

The Ivorian champions opened the scoring in the 54th minute when Sou Olivier found the back of the net, giving ASEC a deserved 1-0 advantage and putting them on course for another domestic honour.

The goal changed the momentum of the match, with ASEC growing in confidence as they searched for a second goal to secure the victory.

CO Korhogo continued to fight and attempted to find an equaliser, but ASEC’s defensive organisation and experience helped them maintain their lead.

The champions then put the result beyond doubt deep into stoppage time.

Bakare Ouato delivered the decisive moment in the 94th minute, scoring ASEC Mimosas’ second goal to seal a convincing 2-0 victory and confirm their status as Super Cup winners.

The triumph marks a memorable beginning to the 2026/27 season for ASEC Mimosas, who continue to underline their dominance in Ivorian football.

After lifting the Ligue 1 title last season, the club has now added the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Super Cup to its collection, providing an early indication of their ambitions for the new campaign.

For ASEC, the victory represents more than just another trophy. It serves as a confidence boost ahead of a busy season in which the club will be aiming to defend its domestic crown while also making an impact in continental competitions.

With their first silverware already secured, ASEC Mimosas will now turn their attention to the challenges ahead as they look to build on this perfect start to the 2026/27 football season.
