WAFCON 2026: Nigeria’s Super Falcons receive $60,000 bonus after record-breaking win over Egypt

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been rewarded with a $60,000 goal bonus following their impressive attacking display in a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C fixture at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The financial reward is part of a performance-based incentive programme introduced by the National Sports Commission (NSC) aimed at motivating the reigning African champions throughout their campaign in Morocco.

Ahead of the tournament, the Commission announced that the Super Falcons would receive a $5,000 bonus for every goal scored during the competition, beginning with their opening group-stage match against Malawi.

The initiative was designed to encourage the team’s attacking approach while providing additional motivation as Nigeria sought to reclaim continental dominance and defend their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football nation.

However, following the Super Falcons’ outstanding performance against Egypt, the incentive was increased significantly.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau revealed that the NSC had decided to double the initial goal reward from $5,000 to $10,000 per goal in recognition of the team’s impressive performances and commitment throughout the tournament.

The adjustment meant that every goal scored against Egypt carried a $10,000 reward, turning Nigeria’s emphatic victory into a financially rewarding outing for the players and technical team.

The Super Falcons delivered one of their best attacking performances of the competition, scoring six goals against the Cleopatras to secure a convincing win and strengthen their position ahead of the knockout stage.

With the revised incentive structure in place, Nigeria’s six-goal haul earned the team a total bonus of $60,000.

The reward serves as another boost for a squad that has shown significant attacking quality during the tournament. The Super Falcons have demonstrated their ability to create chances, score goals and compete at the highest level as they continue their pursuit of another WAFCON title.

For the players and coaching staff, the bonus is not only a financial incentive but also recognition of their efforts and the importance of delivering positive results on the continental stage.

The Super Falcons will now shift their focus to the knockout rounds, where they will face tougher challenges as they aim to go all the way and add another African title to Nigeria’s historic record.
