The Ghana Football Federation has formally requested a change of venue for the second leg of the Brazil 2014 World Cup play-offs against Egypt, citing the alarming and rapid deterioration of the security situation in Egypt. Ghana has expressed serious concerns about the safety and security of their delegation if the match is played in Egypt, considering the ongoing violence and insecurity in the country.
FIFA has responded to this request by asking for security guarantees from Egypt. The Egyptian authorities have until October 28 to provide these guarantees. FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke mentioned that while they hope for a return to normalcy in Egypt, they must consider alternative options for the match. The first leg is scheduled to be held in Ghana, and the return leg was initially set for November 16, 17, or 18, but the venue remains uncertain.
