Al-Ittihad secure Senegal midfielder Dion Lopy after €13m move

Senegal midfielder Dion Lopy has joined Al-Ittihad from Spanish club UD Almeria for €13m, completing a move to the Saudi Pro League at the age of 24.

Lopy, who plays as a defensive midfielder, has signed a contract with Al-Ittihad running until 30 June 2030. The right-footed player becomes part of the Saudi club’s squad after two seasons with Almeria, where he played in both LaLiga and LaLiga2.

The move brings an end to Lopy’s time in Spain. He joined Almeria from French side Stade Reims on 5 August 2023 for €6.5m and went on to make appearances across the Spanish league system. His record includes 30 LaLiga appearances and 63 matches in LaLiga2, with four goals and five assists in the second tier.

Lopy also featured in the promotion play-offs for LaLiga, making six appearances and registering one assist. His time in Spain included further matches in the Copa del Rey, where he made six appearances.

Before moving to Almeria, Lopy spent two seasons in the Stade Reims system. He joined the French club’s first team from Stade Reims B in July 2021, having initially moved to the reserve side from Oslo FA Dakar in Senegal.

The midfielder’s career has included football in Senegal, France and Spain before his switch to Saudi Arabia. At 1.84m, he adds physical presence to Al-Ittihad’s midfield, while his primary role remains in front of the defence.

Lopy’s move to Al-Ittihad was completed on 5 August 2026, with the club committing to a contract that lasts through the end of June 2030.
