In an exclusive interview with Captain Ahmed Hassan on the dmc channel, Eng. Adly Al-Qaei, the president of Al-Ahly Football Club, emphasized that Al-Ahly did not benefit from extending the registration period, especially as the club handled the matter without considering the extension.
Al-Qaei clarified that “the national team did not deliver what was expected of it in the recent Africa Cup of Nations, and its exit was logical.”
He added that the preparation was not suitable, and Vitoria’s statements suggested that the tournament was a preparation for qualifying for the World Cup.
Despite his differences with Carlos Queiroz, he acknowledged that Queiroz had his perspective, introduced new faces, and lost the championship in a penalty shootout, missing the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup in the same scenario.
He continued, “Several African teams showed a high fighting spirit that exceeded their capabilities, giving them an edge.
I am in favor of appointing a national coach because it is the best and most suitable option.”
Al-Qaei pointed out that logic and appropriateness at the present time dictate the temporary appointment of Micali, among the names being considered, excluding Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan, who could be given the opportunity.
He added, “The national coach must have a strong personality, make demands, and take bold decisions.
There are promising coaches who need to overcome their shortcomings, and there are distinguished individuals like Ali Maher and Mohamed Shawky.”
As the debate about the leadership of the national team continues, the temporary appointment of Micali becomes a focal point in the ongoing discussions surrounding Egypt’s football future.
