Mohamed Salah set for Trabzonspor move after Istanbul arrival announcement

Trabzonspor have announced that Mohamed Salah is due to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday before joining the Turkish club later that evening, as negotiations over a proposed transfer move forward.

The Super Lig club made the announcement on social media on Tuesday night, describing it as “great news for Trabzonspor supporters”.

Trabzonspor said Salah would land at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at noon on Wednesday, 5 August. The club added that the Egypt forward would travel on to Trabzon in the evening, while the precise time and further details would be released during the day.

“Mohamed Salah, with whom transfer negotiations have begun, will land at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at noon on Wednesday, 5 August. The player will join Trabzonspor in the evening. The time and other details will be announced to the public during the day,” the club said.

The announcement comes as Trabzonspor sit third in the Super Lig and follows reports that the 34-year-old is close to agreeing a two-year contract with the club.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the deal has already been completed. Salah is a free agent after his contract with Liverpool expired last summer.

The winger’s next move follows his appearance for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup this summer. He scored against New Zealand during the group stage of the tournament.

Besiktas had been close to signing Salah and were previously in a position to recruit the right winger. However, Trabzonspor now appear to have moved ahead in the race for his signature, with the player expected to complete the switch on a two-year agreement.

Trabzonspor’s statement did not confirm that the transfer had been formally completed. Instead, it referred to the opening of negotiations and set out arrangements for Salah’s arrival in Turkey. The club said it would provide the public with the remaining information later on Wednesday.

Salah’s expected move would take him away from Liverpool following the expiry of his contract and towards a new challenge in the Super Lig. The club’s public announcement has nevertheless made clear that the proposed transfer has reached an advanced stage, with Salah scheduled to arrive in Istanbul before continuing to Trabzon.

The timing and other details of his arrival are still to be communicated by Trabzonspor. For now, the Turkish club’s announcement places Salah on course to join them, despite Besiktas having previously been close to securing the forward.
