WAFCON 2026 Cote d’Ivoire beat Tanzania to win Group B

Cote d’Ivoire finished the group stage of WAFCON 2026 in style, beating Tanzania 2-1 to move into the quarterfinals as Group B winners.

The Ivorians stayed unbeaten and underlined their status as one of the tournament’s strongest stories so far.

Tanzania entered the match knowing a win would send them straight through, and their confidence had been boosted by a historic first WAFCON victory over South Africa. But they were without Hasnath Ubamba, whose suspension left them short of one of their key players. Côte d’Ivoire, meanwhile, managed the bigger moments well and struck just before halftime when Ines Konan set up Nsira Ouedraogo for the opener.

Ines Konan then doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 68th minute, giving the Elephants a cushion they never really lost. Tanzania kept pushing and were rewarded deep into stoppage time when Diana Msewa scored from the spot, but it came too late to change the outcome.

The result sends Cote d’Ivoire into the knockout rounds with momentum, discipline and real belief after a strong return to the continental stage.
