Christian Nørgaard given Arsenal permission to undergo Everton medical

Arsenal midfielder Christian Nørgaard has been granted permission to undergo a medical with Everton as he moves closer to completing a transfer during the summer window.

Sky Sports reports that Everton have agreed a deal with Arsenal worth about £7m for the 32-year-old Denmark international. The transfer is expected to be completed within the next few days, subject to the medical and the final formalities.

Nørgaard was not part of the Arsenal squad that travelled to Dublin for their pre-season preparations. Brazil internationals Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli were included in the travelling group after completing their involvement at the 2026 World Cup.

His expected departure comes as Arsenal continue to reshape their midfield. Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes is currently the club’s leading target for that position, although Newcastle have already rejected Arsenal’s opening offer for the Brazil international.

Guimaraes is understood to be valued at about £80m. The 28-year-old has not asked to leave Newcastle, but reports suggest the possibility of a move before the summer transfer window closes has increased following the departures of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon.

Nørgaard’s exit would give Arsenal additional room in their squad and reduce their wage commitments, potentially helping the club pursue a major midfield signing in the coming weeks.

The Dane joined Arsenal last summer after an impressive spell with Brentford, where he scored 13 goals and created 18 more in 196 appearances across all competitions.

However, his opportunities at Arsenal were limited during the previous season. He played 20 matches for the club, but started only one Premier League game and was unable to secure a regular place in manager Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.

As the campaign progressed, Nørgaard slipped further down the midfield pecking order. Arsenal were therefore prepared to consider his departure from Emirates Stadium if a suitable offer arrived.

The proposed move to Everton would bring an end to his time in north London after only one season, while also allowing Arsenal to make space for further changes in midfield. For Everton, the deal would provide experience and international quality in the centre of the pitch, although the transfer remains dependent on Nørgaard successfully completing his medical.
