Real Madrid work to beat Leipzig deadline in Yan Diomande transfer

Real Madrid are close to announcing the signing of Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande after reaching an agreement with German club RB Leipzig, but the formal confirmation has been delayed by the Bundesliga side.

The hold-up is not linked to any disagreement involving Diomande or his representative, despite claims made in some reports, according to Spanish journalist Rodra of ESPN. Instead, the delay is understood to be on Leipzig’s side, even though an agreement between all parties has been almost complete for several days.

The total value of the transfer, including add-ons, is expected to exceed €130m. Real Madrid believe Diomande will arrive at the club’s Valdebebas training complex during the current week to complete the remaining formalities and finalise his move to the Spanish side.

The information is consistent with an earlier update from German journalist Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany. He reported that negotiations between Real Madrid and Leipzig had made significant progress and that completing the final contracts was now considered a matter of time.

Real Madrid are attempting to conclude the deal before Diomande travels to Leipzig’s pre-season camp in Austria. The club’s management wants the player to undergo his medical examination and complete the administrative procedures before he leaves, in order to avoid any delay that could affect the timing of his arrival in Madrid.

Diomande is regarded as a major priority by Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, who is keen for the transfer to be completed as soon as possible. The intention is to allow the player to join Real Madrid’s training programme and take part in the team’s tactical preparations before the start of the new season.

The Madrid club hopes to resolve the remaining details within the next few hours. That would clear the way for an official announcement and a presentation of Diomande to the supporters.

The proposed signing forms part of Real Madrid’s plan to strengthen the squad with young players capable of helping the club return to winning major honours. The club has gone two seasons without a trophy and sees Diomande as an important addition as it seeks to rebuild its competitive position.

Although the broad terms of the agreement are already understood to be in place, the announcement cannot be made until the final documentation has been completed. Real Madrid’s urgency is therefore centred on timing rather than on reopening negotiations, with the player’s scheduled departure for Leipzig’s Austrian camp creating the immediate deadline.

The Spanish club’s preference is to have Diomande in Madrid, medically cleared and formally registered before that trip takes place. If the remaining steps are concluded as expected, the deal should then be followed by confirmation of his arrival and his introduction to the Real Madrid support.
