Mohamed Salah set to join Trabzonspor after reported two-year agreement

Mohamed Salah is reportedly set to complete his move to Turkish club Trabzonspor on Wednesday after agreeing a two-year contract, according to Turkish transfer journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu.

Salah is expected to arrive in Istanbul at 12:00 local time on Wednesday to sign the formal documents, with an official announcement to follow.

The former Liverpool forward had been linked with both Trabzonspor and Besiktas in recent days as uncertainty continued over his next club. Sabuncuoglu, who specialises in the transfer market, reported that Trabzonspor had reached a final agreement with the Egypt captain.

The report says Salah will be paid an annual salary of about 17m euros, in addition to performance-related bonuses. Turkish outlet Ajansspor said Trabzonspor had offered a two-year deal worth 17m euros per season, with a further 5m euros available in bonuses.

Salah would also receive 20% of shirt sales under the reported terms.

Trabzonspor are said to be arranging a private aircraft to fly Salah from Greece, where he is spending his holiday, to Turkey on Wednesday before the deal is formally confirmed.

The Turkish newspaper Sabah had previously reported that Salah was edging closer to Trabzonspor after the club submitted an improved offer. It said the player was expected to travel to Turkey on Wednesday if he accepted the proposal.

French website Foot Mercato has also reported that Trabzonspor are close to signing the former Liverpool player.

The latest claims follow Besiktas’s withdrawal from negotiations with Salah, reportedly because of the financial demands made by his agent, Ramy Abbas.

Salah’s future has also been linked with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, who were previously reported to have made an offer for the Egypt international.

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan had earlier played down suggestions that a deal had already been completed. Speaking to Turkish broadcaster A Spor, he said: “Who would not want to sign a player like Mohamed Salah? I want that too, but until this moment there is no agreement.”

He added: “I do not want to talk about whether we have contacted Mohamed Salah or not. As the club president, I must protect the interests of Trabzonspor, so we have to choose our words carefully.”

Dogan also said: “If there is any new development regarding transfers, we will inform our fans and the public immediately.”

Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season after spending nine years with the club. During that period, he became one of the most prominent players in Liverpool’s history, although the report describes him as having now completed his time with the Reds.

Trabzonspor have previously had Egypt internationals Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” and Ayman Abdelaziz among their players.

The Turkish club finished third in the Turkish league last season and will enter next season’s Europa League in the qualifying play-off round.

Salah also returned from the World Cup with Egypt after the team were eliminated by Argentina in the last 16.
