Mohamed Salah set to join Trabzonspor after agreeing two-year contract

Mohamed Salah has agreed to join Trabzonspor this summer, although one outstanding clause must still be approved by the Turkish club before the former Liverpool forward can complete the move.

Salah is reported to have reached an agreement on a two-year contract with Trabzonspor, according to respected Turkish journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu. Writing on his personal account on X, Sabuncuoglu said the Egypt international had settled on a move to the Turkish side.

However, one provision in the contract remains unresolved. Trabzonspor must give its approval to that clause before Salah can sign the agreement and make the transfer official.

The development follows a period of uncertainty over the 33-year-old’s next destination. Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season after spending nine years at Anfield, prompting speculation that he could move to a number of clubs in Saudi Arabia or Turkey.

His name had been linked with Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiah and Al-Diriyah in Saudi Arabia. In Turkey, Besiktas and Trabzonspor had emerged as possible destinations.

Salah was initially associated with a move to Besiktas, but negotiations became more complicated. Al-Ittihad then made an offer for the Egyptian, although Salah reportedly preferred a move to Turkey.

If completed, the transfer to Trabzonspor would make it the seventh club of Salah’s senior career. He began with Egyptian side Al Mokawloon Al Arab before moving to Basel in Switzerland. His career then took him to Italy with Fiorentina and Roma, followed by spells in England with Chelsea and Liverpool.

Liverpool was the defining chapter of Salah’s career. He joined the club in 2017 and remained there for nine years, becoming one of the most prominent players in the team’s modern history.

During his time at Anfield, Salah won the Premier League twice, as well as the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup once each.

His departure brought an end to a long association with Liverpool, while the reported agreement with Trabzonspor would open a new stage of his career in Turkey. The move cannot be formally completed until the remaining contract provision has been accepted by Trabzonspor.

For now, the Turkish club’s approval is the only reported obstacle separating Salah from an official signing. Once that condition is settled, Trabzonspor will be set to confirm one of the most high-profile additions in its recent history.
