South Africa defender Sphiwe Msimango makes Stellenbosch FC switch

South Africa centre-back Sphiwe Msimango has joined Stellenbosch FC from Kaizer Chiefs, completing a move between two Betway Premiership clubs.

The 29-year-old defender arrives at Stellenbosch after two seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, where he was part of the squad that won the Nedbank Cup in the 2024-25 campaign. His arrival adds an experienced central defender to a club competing in the same domestic division.

Msimango, who was born in Brakpan, Gauteng, stands at 1.90m and is naturally right-footed. He plays primarily as a centre-back and has represented clubs exclusively in South Africa during his senior career.

Before moving to Kaizer Chiefs, Msimango spent three seasons with TS Galaxy. He joined the club from Highlands Park in September 2020, having previously been with Johannesburg before his move to Highlands Park during the 2017-18 season.

His transfer to Kaizer Chiefs was completed in July 2023, following his spell at TS Galaxy. The defender now changes clubs again after leaving Chiefs for Stellenbosch at the start of the 2026-27 season.

Msimango’s record at Kaizer Chiefs includes the Nedbank Cup success in the 2024-25 campaign, the first major honour identified in his senior career. He joins Stellenbosch with a history of playing in the Betway Premiership and experience across several South African clubs.

The move was completed on 4 August 2026, with Msimango now a Stellenbosch FC player.
