Thembinkosi Lorch ready for Wydad AC return

South African forward Thembinkosi Lorch has opened the door for a possible return to Wydad Athletic Club in the current summer transfer window.

The experienced attacker has reportedly made himself available to the Moroccan giants as he looks for a new challenge following his decision to leave Libyan club Al-Ittihad, where he struggled to fully settle and integrate into the team.

Lorch, who previously enjoyed a successful spell with Wydad, believes a return to the Moroccan club could provide the right environment for him to revive his career. The South African international remains highly regarded by supporters of the “Red Castle” following his impressive performances during his first stint at the club.

The former Orlando Pirates star joined Wydad during the previous winter transfer window under the leadership of former club president Hicham Ait Menna. However, his time in Libya with Al-Ittihad proved short-lived, as he featured in only seven league matches before deciding to seek a move away.

With his future now uncertain, Lorch has reportedly informed Wydad officials of his willingness to return if the club decides that his experience and qualities fit their plans for the upcoming season.

The proposal is currently being studied by Wydad’s management, who are assessing several options as they look to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign. The club is expected to make decisions based on their technical needs and recruitment strategy.

A potential return would provide Wydad with a player familiar with the club’s environment and expectations. Lorch’s creativity, technical ability and experience in high-pressure matches could be valuable assets as the Moroccan giants prepare for another competitive season.

However, the move is still at an early stage, with no final agreement reached between the two parties. Wydad officials are yet to decide whether to bring the South African attacker back to Casablanca or pursue other targets in the transfer market.

One of the key issues surrounding the possible deal is Lorch’s contractual situation with Al-Ittihad. The player would reportedly need to activate the release clause included in his agreement with the Libyan club before completing any potential move.

The coming days are expected to provide more clarity on whether Wydad will welcome back a familiar face or decide to continue exploring alternative options.

For Lorch, a return to the Moroccan side could represent an opportunity to continue where he left off and rebuild his momentum after a brief and challenging spell in Libya. For Wydad, the decision will depend on whether the club believes the experienced attacker can once again make a significant contribution in the famous red jersey.
