Al Ittihad close in on Dion Lopy after reaching agreement with Almeria

Al Ittihad have reached an agreement in principle with Almeria to sign Senegal international midfielder Dion Lopy in a deal worth €19m, with a further 10% sell-on clause included in the arrangement.

The Saudi Arabian club are now working with Almeria to complete the remaining administrative details before the transfer can be formally concluded. Lopy’s medical has already been scheduled, indicating that the move could be completed within the next few hours.

The agreement was reported by Fabrizio Romano, with the final stages of the transfer now focused on paperwork and the formal completion of the deal.

Lopy, 23, is under contract with Almeria until 30 June 2030 but is preparing to leave the Spanish club for a new challenge in the Saudi Arabian league. A move to Al Ittihad would mark the next stage in the midfielder’s development after he continued his progress in Spain.

His arrival would strengthen Al Ittihad’s midfield as the club continues to pursue its recruitment plans with significant ambition. The proposed transfer fee is considerably higher than Lopy’s current estimated market value.

Transfermarkt values the Senegal international at €15m. Almeria are instead set to receive €19m for the player, while the agreement also gives the Spanish club a 10% share of any future resale.

Lopy’s proposed move comes while he remains tied to Almeria for several more years, underlining the scale of the commitment being made by Al Ittihad. The Saudi club are seeking to add further quality and depth to their midfield, with the Senegalese player identified as a significant reinforcement.

Lopy currently earns an annual salary of €480,000, equivalent to 312,000,000 FCFA. His next contract at Al Ittihad will follow the completion of the medical and the final administrative procedures.

For now, the transfer remains subject to those outstanding steps, despite the agreement in principle between the two clubs. The scheduled medical is the clearest indication that negotiations have advanced to an advanced stage and that an official announcement may follow shortly.

Al Ittihad’s proposed acquisition of Lopy would take the midfielder out of Spain and into a different domestic competition at the age of 23. The player has continued his career progression with Almeria and is now close to beginning a new chapter in Saudi Arabia.

With the fee, sell-on provision and medical arrangements already established, the deal is moving towards completion. The last administrative details must still be settled before Lopy’s transfer from Almeria to Al Ittihad becomes official.
