Glody Lilepo completes Kaizer Chiefs exit to Al Ahly Benghazi

Glody Lilepo has completed his move from Kaizer Chiefs to Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi, bringing an end to his time with the Soweto giants after an emotional farewell to the club and its supporters.

The Congolese attacker was officially unveiled by Al Ahly Benghazi this week, confirming his departure from Naturena and the next step in his career. His transfer follows a productive spell with Kaizer Chiefs, during which he became one of the club’s most prominent performers.

Lilepo leaves after making 56 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs in all competitions. He scored 15 goals and supplied five assists during that period, establishing himself as an important attacking figure for the club.

His final full season was particularly noteworthy. Lilepo scored nine goals during the 2025/26 campaign, finishing as Kaizer Chiefs’ second-highest scorer behind Wandile Duba. That return underlined his influence in the team and helped cement his reputation as one of Amakhosi’s leading players.

The move was confirmed after Lilepo published a farewell message on social media, in which he thanked those connected with the club and acknowledged the supporters who had backed him during his time in Johannesburg.

“It is with emotion that my journey with you comes to an end,” he wrote in part.

Lilepo’s departure means Kaizer Chiefs have lost a player who made a significant contribution in front of goal, particularly during the 2025/26 season. His record of 15 goals and five assists across 56 matches reflects the role he played during his spell at Naturena, while his nine-goal campaign made him the club’s second-most prolific scorer for the season.

Al Ahly Benghazi have now presented Lilepo as their latest addition, formally beginning his time with the Libyan giants. The unveiling marks the conclusion of the transfer process and closes the chapter on his Kaizer Chiefs career.

Kaizer Chiefs have already moved to strengthen their squad following the attacker’s exit. The club have signed Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC, where he was the leading goalscorer last season.

Phili’s arrival gives Kaizer Chiefs a new attacking option as they adjust to life without Lilepo. However, Lilepo’s contribution across his 56 appearances, and especially his nine goals in the 2025/26 campaign, ensures that he leaves behind a notable record at the club.

His move abroad also means that the former Kaizer Chiefs attacker will continue his career with Al Ahly Benghazi after establishing himself as one of Amakhosi’s standout performers.
