Given Msimango bids farewell to Kaizer Chiefs before Stellenbosch move

Given Msimango has confirmed his departure from Kaizer Chiefs as he prepares to complete a move to Stellenbosch FC.

The 29-year-old defender announced his exit in a heartfelt social media message, with Stellenbosch expected to make the transfer official soon.

Msimango joined Kaizer Chiefs from TS Galaxy in July 2023, arriving at Naturena with considerable expectations. During his time with Amakhosi, he demonstrated his leadership qualities and became a reliable member of the squad.

His influence was particularly evident during the 2025/26 campaign, when he established himself as an important figure in the Chiefs defence.

The centre-back’s future had initially appeared to remain with the Soweto club. However, that changed as Kaizer Chiefs stepped up their pursuit of winger Langelihle Phili, whose move to the club was confirmed on Monday.

As part of the agreement that takes Phili to Kaizer Chiefs, Msimango is set to move in the opposite direction to Stellenbosch. The deal also includes striker Ashley Du Preez, who has already completed his transfer to the Cape Winelands club.

Msimango used his farewell message to thank Kaizer Chiefs and reflect on his time with one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

“Thank you Kaizer Chiefs for giving me memories that will last a lifetime,” Msimango wrote.

“It was an honor to wear this badge and be part of this great club.

“I leave with gratitude in my heart and wish the club nothing but success.”

The move will give Msimango a new opportunity after three seasons with Kaizer Chiefs. He is expected to work under Stellenbosch coach Gavin Hunt and will be hoping to play a significant role in the club’s defence during the 2026/27 season.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the deal represents a reshaping of the squad under the circumstances surrounding their pursuit of Phili. Msimango departs after becoming a dependable presence at the back, while Du Preez has already begun his next chapter with Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch, meanwhile, are preparing to welcome a defender with top-flight experience and leadership qualities. Msimango’s official move is expected to be announced by the club shortly.
