Glody Makabi Lilepo leaves Kaizer Chiefs for Al Ahly Benghazi

Glody Makabi Lilepo has officially ended his time at Kaizer Chiefs after completing a move to Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi.

The DR Congo international’s departure had been anticipated for several weeks, with reports indicating that he would leave the Soweto club before the start of the 2026/27 season. His transfer brings to a close an 18-month spell during which he became an important figure for the Glamour Boys.

Lilepo, 29, joined Kaizer Chiefs from French side Valenciennes in January 2025. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, which included an option for an additional season.

The attacker arrived at Naturena with considerable expectations and made an immediate impression in the Chiefs side. He was part of the team that won the 2025 Nedbank Cup under then-manager Nasreddine Nabi, ending the club’s lengthy wait for a major trophy.

Across all competitions, Lilepo made 56 appearances for Amakhosi. He scored 15 goals and supplied five assists before his move away from the club was confirmed.

His next destination was announced by Al Ahly Benghazi on Monday. The Libyan club said the Congolese forward would continue his career in Libya, while reports suggest he has agreed a two-year contract.

“To the recruitment file and the start with the shining attacker ‘Macabi Lybibo’ Lilepo,” the club announced.

“Macabi officially represents the colours of Al Ahly.”

Lilepo has won 11 international caps for DR Congo and now becomes the latest notable player to leave Kaizer Chiefs as the club prepares to reshape its squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

His departure follows a period in which he established himself as one of the team’s key attacking options and helped deliver the Nedbank Cup, a success that ended a significant trophy drought for the club.

Kaizer Chiefs will now have to adjust their plans ahead of the new season, with Lilepo’s goals and attacking contribution no longer available to the squad. Al Ahly Benghazi, meanwhile, have secured a player with experience in South Africa, France and international football.

The move also confirms the end of Lilepo’s spell with the Glamour Boys, despite his performances having made him a popular and influential figure at Naturena.
