Real Madrid refuse to bend as Vinicius Junior contract standoff deepens

Real Madrid are refusing to meet Vinicius Junior’s reported demands for a substantial renewal bonus, despite the risk that the Brazil forward could leave the club for free. The Spanish giants fear granting his requests would set a damaging precedent and encourage other senior players to seek similar financial terms.

The dispute was reported by Spanish radio programme El Larguero, broadcast by Cadena SER. According to the programme, Vinicius wants a renewal bonus comparable to the signing bonus Kylian Mbappe received when he joined Real Madrid. He is also seeking a larger share of his image rights.

Real Madrid have rejected those demands, with the club concerned that accepting them could undermine the financial structure of the squad and trigger a wave of excessive requests from other players.

Sports analyst Marcos Lopez warned that making an exception for Vinicius could have consequences throughout the dressing room.

“I understand why Real Madrid are refusing to give him a renewal bonus; because it seems like a huge injustice to the player, to ask him to pay a bonus to renew his contract. If we accept this, Bellingham will come, then Valverde, then the others… and it will not end well,” Lopez said on El Larguero.

Lopez also referred to Mbappe’s previous situation with Paris Saint-Germain as an example of the dangers clubs face when they give in to the financial demands of leading players.

“Look at what happened in Paris with Mbappe; things usually do not end well when you open this door,” he added.

The timing of the disagreement is increasingly significant for Real Madrid. Vinicius will be able to negotiate freely with any club from next January, with five months remaining before he can begin discussions over a possible move. That leaves the club facing a difficult choice: accept his terms and risk creating a precedent, or continue to resist and potentially lose one of their most prominent players without a transfer fee.

According to Spanish newspaper Diario AS, tensions between Vinicius and Real Madrid began after Mbappe’s arrival. The France captain quickly became the team’s leading star, while Vinicius found his role reduced to a secondary position.

That change is said to have frustrated the Brazilian, who wants to be treated on terms similar to Mbappe.

Aritz Gabilondo, presenter of El Larguero, questioned whether Vinicius is still in a position to dictate the terms of his next contract.

“We are talking about Real Madrid’s future project, and Vinicius is not the same as he was two years ago. The club is offering him a huge contract, but he is no longer the player he was, and I think his level is declining,” Gabilondo said.

Real Madrid appear determined to maintain their position and refuse to pay Vinicius a renewal bonus, even if that stance ultimately leads to his departure.

The club’s approach would send a clear message to the rest of the squad that it will not give way to demands that could create a long-term threat to its financial stability. For now, the future of Vinicius at Santiago Bernabeu remains uncertain, with the renewal dispute yet to be resolved.
