Féliciano Montcho leaves Hafia FC after injury-plagued spell

Beninese midfielder and Guinean club agree to end contract after difficult period dominated by injury

Féliciano Montcho has officially ended his time at Hafia FC after the Beninese midfielder and the Guinean club agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent, bringing to a close a spell that was heavily affected by a serious knee injury.

Montcho joined Hafia FC in July 2025 from Dadjè FC on a three-year contract, but he was unable to establish himself after suffering a major setback only a few months into his stay.

The mutual agreement concludes a partnership that never developed as planned, with the midfielder spending most of his time recovering instead of competing on the pitch.

Serious injury halted promising start

Montcho’s difficulties began in September 2025 while Hafia FC were preparing for the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

The midfielder sustained an injury during training, and medical examinations later confirmed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

The diagnosis required surgery, which was carried out in Tunisia in November.

Despite the disappointment, the player remained optimistic after the operation and thanked the club for the support it had provided during that period.

At the time, he said:

“It’s a tough blow, of course, but I’m already looking to the future.”

The injury dramatically altered the course of his first season with the club, preventing him from making the impact that had been expected following his arrival.

Rehabilitation dominates entire campaign

Instead of building momentum on the pitch, Montcho devoted the remainder of the 2025-26 season to rehabilitation.

The first phase of his recovery was completed in December before he gradually resumed training with the squad in January 2026.

Although Hafia FC finished the season in second place, the midfielder was still unable to return fully to competitive action.

By April, he had openly acknowledged his frustration after spending the entire campaign on the sidelines because of the injury.

His rehabilitation continued throughout the following months as he worked towards a full recovery.

Recovery still incomplete

On 3 August 2026, Montcho confirmed that he had not yet reached the level required to return to competition.

In a statement announcing the end of his time with Hafia FC, the 26-year-old explained that his recovery remained unfinished.

He said:

“Unfortunately, I am still not fully recovered from the serious injury I suffered. Despite several months of work and rehabilitation, I am not yet able to approach the preseason in optimal condition or immediately meet the demands of competition.”

The statement made clear that his physical condition remained the decisive factor behind the conclusion of his spell with the Guinean side.

Mutual agreement ends difficult chapter

Both the player and Hafia FC ultimately decided that ending the contract by mutual agreement was the best solution.

Montcho used the opportunity to thank the club’s management, coaching staff, teammates and supporters for their backing throughout his rehabilitation.

Despite the difficult experience, he expressed confidence that he would return stronger.

He concluded:

“This is just a temporary setback. We’ll meet again very soon, stronger than ever.”

The departure closes a chapter that was shaped more by recovery than by football.

Having spent almost an entire year working to regain fitness, Montcho will now continue focusing exclusively on his rehabilitation with the aim of returning to the highest level of the game.
