Roma’s Muhammed Bah suffers ACL injury in pre-season blow against Cardiff City

Roma midfielder Muhammed Bah is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious ACL injury in the club’s pre-season loss to Cardiff City.

The 19-year-old collapsed in tears during the first half and was later diagnosed with a rupture in his right knee, with surgery now planned and an absence of around nine months expected.

Bah’s setback is especially cruel because it comes after a rapid rise through Roma’s youth system. He joined the academy in 2022 and quickly made an impact, leading the under-18 side while helping the under-17s win the national title. The following season, still only 16, he moved into the Primavera group that had already won the Coppa and Supercoppa.

His progress earned him a first-team call-up from Daniele De Rossi in February 2024, but he then suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his left knee that ended that season. After returning in December 2024, Bah grew into one of the Primavera’s standout players across the 2024-25 and 2025-26 campaigns. Roma will now hope the young midfielder can again recover from adversity and return stronger.
