Kaizer Chiefs complete signing of Stellenbosch FC winger Langelihle Phili

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the signing of highly rated winger Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC, bringing an extended pursuit of the 21-year-old South African youth international to an end.

The Soweto club had been tracking Phili since last season and secured his services after a period of intense negotiations between the two clubs. His arrival represents a significant addition for Kaizer Chiefs as they look to build on the momentum created by the winger’s breakthrough campaign.

Phili travelled to Johannesburg on Sunday evening to complete the final stages of the move. He was expected to settle his personal terms and undergo medical assessments before being formally unveiled at the club’s Naturena base.

The winger joins Amakhosi after an outstanding season with Stellenbosch FC, where he established himself as one of the club’s most influential attacking players. Phili ended the campaign as Stellenbosch’s leading scorer, scoring nine goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

His performances were also recognised internally, with the 21-year-old collecting four individual awards at the club. That haul included the Player of the Season prize, underlining the impact he made during his breakout campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs’ agreement to sign Phili is a multi-million rand player-plus-cash deal. As part of the transaction, the Soweto club have sanctioned the permanent departures of forward Ashley Du Preez and defender Given Msimango.

Both players have moved in the opposite direction and will continue their careers at Stellenbosch FC. Their transfers form part of the arrangement that has taken Phili to Gauteng.

The deal ends a lengthy effort by Kaizer Chiefs to bring the young winger to the club. The club’s interest had been sustained since the previous season, when Phili’s performances first attracted attention, but negotiations were required before the transfer could be completed.

With the agreement now officially announced, Phili is set to begin the next stage of his career at Naturena. He arrives with the reputation of a direct and productive attacker, having combined regular involvement for Stellenbosch FC with a strong individual return in front of goal.

For Stellenbosch FC, the agreement represents the departure of their top scorer from the previous campaign, while the club receive two permanent additions in Du Preez and Msimango. For Kaizer Chiefs, the signing delivers a player they had pursued for an extended period and adds a proven young goalscorer to their squad.
