Cote d’Ivoire one point from Women’s AFCON quarter-finals as Tanzania await

Cote d’Ivoire need only avoid defeat against Tanzania on Tuesday to reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026, with their final Group B match scheduled for 22:00 France time (20:00 in Cote d’Ivoire).

The game will be played at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco. Viewers in France can watch the match live on beIN Sports Max 4, while coverage in Cote d’Ivoire will be available on Canal+ Sport and RTI.

Cote d’Ivoire currently lead Group B after taking four points from their opening two matches. They began the tournament with a 4-1 victory over Burkina Faso before drawing 2-2 with South Africa.

That run has left the Ivorian side one point clear of both Burkina Faso and Tanzania. Burkina Faso sit second and Tanzania are third, with the teams separated by goal difference.

As a result, Reynald Pedros and his players know a draw would be enough to secure their place in the last eight. Qualification would mean Cote d’Ivoire have reached the knockout stage in both of their appearances at the competition.

The team’s previous appearance in the knockout rounds came after the 2014 tournament, when Cote d’Ivoire achieved their best finish in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by claiming third place.

Tanzania, known as the Twiga Stars, provide the final test in the group stage. The two nations have never met in the finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, making Tuesday’s fixture their first meeting at this stage of the competition.

They have, however, faced one another in qualifying. In September 2023, Cote d’Ivoire won the first leg 2-0 before Tanzania replied with a 2-0 victory in the return match.

That history offers little to separate the sides ahead of a match with significant consequences for both teams. Cote d’Ivoire are in control of their qualification prospects, while Tanzania enter the game in third place and level with Burkina Faso on the points tally described in the group standings.

The match will therefore determine whether Pedros’ side can complete the group phase unbeaten and progress to the quarter-finals, or whether Tanzania can use their position in the final round of fixtures to challenge the current leaders.

Kick-off is at 22:00 in France and 20:00 in Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday. The match is being staged at Casablanca’s Stade Larbi Zaouli, with live broadcasts on beIN Sports Max 4 in France and on Canal+ Sport and RTI in Cote d’Ivoire.
