Al-Ittihad close to agreement for Senegal midfielder Dion Lopy

Al-Ittihad are reportedly nearing the completion of a deal for Senegalese midfielder Dion Lopy as the Saudi club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.

According to sources quoted by Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya, negotiations between Al-Ittihad and Spanish side Almeria have reached an advanced stage, with the player expected to sign a four-year contract.

The talks have progressed significantly in recent days, increasing expectations that the transfer could be completed before the close of the summer window.

Negotiations gather pace

Al-Ittihad are understood to have identified Lopy as a key target as they seek to add quality and depth to their midfield options.

Although financial details have not been disclosed, Transfermarkt estimates the Senegal international’s market value at around €15 million.

The Saudi club is continuing discussions with Almeria in an attempt to convince the Spanish side to part with one of their most important players.

Almeria face battle to keep midfielder

The potential transfer comes despite Lopy having recently extended his contract with Almeria until the summer of 2030.

The Spanish club, led by president Mohammed Al-Khuraiji, now faces growing pressure from Al-Ittihad’s interest as negotiations continue.

Lopy joined Almeria from French side Stade Reims in the summer of 2023 and quickly established himself as a regular member of the team.

Senegal international impressed in Spain

Since arriving in Spain, the 24-year-old has made 105 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing six assists.

After beginning his Almeria career in La Liga, Lopy remained a key figure as the club competed in the Spanish second division over the following two seasons.

His consistency and experience have made him one of Senegal’s most highly regarded midfielders, attracting interest from abroad.

For Al-Ittihad, securing Lopy’s signature would represent another significant addition as the club looks to assemble a squad capable of challenging for major honours in the coming campaign.
