Edin Terzic hails Inaki Williams after late change in Athletic Club victory over Burgos
Edin Terzic has praised Inaki Williams for answering the call after a late injury disrupted Athletic Club’s plans, with the forward playing a key role in their convincing 3-0 pre-season victory over Burgos.
Benat Gerenabarrena was ruled out with last-minute discomfort, prompting the staff to avoid any risks and turning to their experienced captain.
Williams, who joined pre-season later following his World Cup duties with Ghana, responded with a goal and more minutes than originally planned. His versatility was crucial as he covered three different roles across the attack, helping Terzic maintain balance despite the setback.
In his post-match remarks, Terzic underlined how important Williams’ contribution was on the night. “The most important thing is that he played today, and he even got more minutes than expected because of Gerenabarrena’s injury. He felt good, and we didn’t want to take any risks with Gere, so Inaki played more and in three different positions”, he said, noting it is something the forward has done before and will likely repeat.
The coach also expressed satisfaction with Athletic’s overall pre-season trajectory, believing they could have scored even more in Burgos. With their league start delayed due to the Barcelona fixture being postponed, the team will now pause briefly before entering the final stretch of preparations.
