Cesc Fabregas pulls off Trevoh Chalobah coup as Como agree £30m Chelsea deal

Cesc Fabregas’ Como are closing in on a major defensive addition after reaching an agreement with Chelsea for Trevoh Chalobah, in a deal that will bring an end to the defender’s two-decade association with the London club.

The Serie A side have reportedly agreed a package worth £25.7 million plus a further £5.1 million in potential add-ons for the England international, with Chelsea also retaining a sell-on clause as part of the agreement.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chalobah has already accepted personal terms with Como and is expected to complete the move in the coming days, paving the way for a new chapter in his career under former Chelsea midfielder Fabregas.

From academy graduate to Stamford Bridge regular

Chalobah’s departure marks the end of a long journey with Chelsea, having joined the club’s academy at a young age and spent 20 years within the system.

The 27-year-old defender had been linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge in recent seasons, with a move away appearing close during the 2024-25 campaign when he joined Crystal Palace on loan.

However, his return to Chelsea saw him force his way back into the plans at the club, becoming one of the team’s most reliable defensive options.

Last season, Chalobah enjoyed one of his most productive campaigns in Chelsea colours, making 52 appearances across all competitions, while contributing three goals and one assist.

His performances highlighted his versatility and consistency, with the defender capable of operating both centrally and in wider defensive positions.

Fabregas strengthens Como project

For Como, the signing represents another statement of ambition as Fabregas continues to build a competitive squad capable of establishing the club among Italy’s top sides.

The former Chelsea midfielder has been central to Como’s recruitment strategy, attracting experienced players and emerging talents as the club continues its rapid rise.

Chalobah’s arrival is expected to provide defensive leadership and top-level experience to Fabregas’ squad, while offering the player a fresh opportunity away from Stamford Bridge.

Despite being highly rated within Chelsea’s setup, Chalobah’s career at the club was often interrupted by injuries and competition for places, forcing him to fight for regular opportunities.

His impressive run last season, however, demonstrated his ability to perform at the highest level when given consistent minutes.

After years of uncertainty surrounding his future, the defender is now set to leave Chelsea with a significant contribution behind him and begin a new challenge in Italy under a manager who knows the club and its demands well.
