Mohamed Salah transfer latest: Trabzonspor chief rejects claims of an agreement

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has dismissed reports that the Turkish club has reached an agreement to sign Mohamed Salah during the current summer transfer window.

Salah, Egypt’s captain and former Liverpool forward, has been linked with several clubs since his future became uncertain, with teams in the Turkish league among those reportedly interested in securing his services.

However, Dogan said there was no deal in place for the 33-year-old, who recently became a free agent after agreeing with Liverpool to end his contract a year before it was due to expire.

“As I said before, there is currently no agreement with Salah. I never said that negotiations are still ongoing. Until this moment, there is no such agreement,” Dogan said in comments reported by Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat.

The statement was intended to draw a line under reports suggesting Salah was close to joining Trabzonspor. The club president’s comments also clarified that there had been no agreement with the Egypt captain, despite the growing speculation surrounding his next destination.

Salah has not yet reached an agreement with a new club since leaving Liverpool and is continuing to consider his options. His next move remains the subject of widespread discussion during the summer transfer window.

Trabzonspor board member and treasurer Dervis Koz also stressed that Dogan has sole authority over transfer matters at the club.

“Ertugrul Dogan is the only person authorised in all transfer matters at the club. His statements on this issue are clear, and if you go back to the president’s statements, you will find the answer you are looking for,” Koz told Reuters.

The clarification from Trabzonspor came only a few days after Besiktas football director Onder Ozen said his club had temporarily stopped its efforts to sign Salah.

Ozen said Besiktas had held several rounds of talks with the former Liverpool forward, but negotiations became increasingly complicated when the financial terms of a potential deal were discussed.

He added that Besiktas would not improve its current offer, while confirming that Salah’s representatives were also in discussions with other clubs interested in signing the player.

Salah is understood to be weighing the proposals available to him before deciding on his next club. He opted to delay making a final decision until after Egypt’s participation in the 2026 World Cup, during which he led the Pharaohs to the last 16.

Only after that tournament, according to the report, will Salah begin comparing the offers before choosing his next destination. For now, Trabzonspor have made clear that, despite the reports linking them with the Egyptian, no agreement exists between the club and the player.
