Kaizer Chiefs Ladies strengthen promotion push with successive wins

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies boosted their hopes of earning promotion to the Hollywoodbets Super League by taking maximum points from two matches in the Gauteng Sasol Women’s Provincial League over the weekend.

Unathi Mabena’s team began the weekend with a convincing 5-0 victory over M.U.S.A United Ladies at Naturena Village on Saturday, 1 August. The result represented a significant turnaround from the teams’ earlier meeting this season, when neither side could find a breakthrough in a goalless draw.

The Glamour Girls established control early on home soil, taking a two-goal lead into half-time. Unathi Mjijwa opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Katlego Mohale doubled the advantage with a goal nine minutes before the interval.

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies continued to dominate after the break and extended their lead from the penalty spot. Goalkeeper Lerato Mokoena stepped up to score and put Amakhosazana 3-0 ahead.

The hosts then added two more goals in the closing stages. Star player Lumka Qhekeka struck in the 67th minute, while Sphiwe Dlamini completed the 5-0 victory with an 79th-minute goal.

That emphatic result was followed by another win on Sunday afternoon, when Kaizer Chiefs Ladies faced JVW FC at Naturena Village. The match was the second fixture between the teams this season, and Chiefs completed a league double with a narrow 1-0 success.

The reverse fixture had also ended 1-0 in favour of Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, but the second meeting was settled by a single goal in a closely fought contest. Nonhlanhla Maci scored in the 69th minute to secure all three points for the home side.

The two victories gave Kaizer Chiefs Ladies six points from the weekend and further strengthened their bid to move up to the Hollywoodbets Super League next season. The back-to-back results also provided a clear contrast in style, with Chiefs following their five-goal performance against M.U.S.A United Ladies with a disciplined one-goal victory over JVW FC.

Both fixtures took place at Naturena Village, with the Saturday win setting the tone before Sunday’s decisive result. After being held to a 0-0 draw by M.U.S.A United Ladies earlier in the campaign, Kaizer Chiefs Ladies produced a far more clinical display in the return match.

Against JVW FC, they again repeated the result from the first encounter, this time relying on Maci’s second-half strike to claim another important victory. The combination of a large-margin win and a narrow success ensured that Mabena’s charges ended the weekend with the full six points available.
