Mohamed Sherif stunned as Al Ahly open door for striker’s departure
Mohamed Sherif’s future at Al Ahly has become uncertain after the Egyptian giants informed the striker that he is no longer included in head coach Hussein Ammouta’s plans for the new season.
The decision has reportedly come as a major surprise to the forward, who believed he still had a role to play at the club after being actively involved in Al Ahly’s preparations for the upcoming campaign.
Sherif took part in the team’s pre-season programme and featured in friendly matches under Ammouta, where he also managed to score goals. His involvement during the build-up to the new season had given him hope that he would remain part of the squad moving forward.
However, Al Ahly’s technical staff have now decided to move in a different direction, leaving the striker to consider his next step.
The forward is said to have been disappointed by the timing of the decision, particularly after being given opportunities during the preparation period. He reportedly questioned why he was allowed to continue training, feature in friendly matches and contribute on the pitch if the club had already determined that he was not part of their future plans.
Al Ahly have communicated to Sherif that he can search for a new club, with the Red Devils prepared to consider different options, including a permanent transfer or a loan move depending on the offers that arrive.
The club’s decision comes as part of their plans to restructure the squad ahead of the new season, with Ammouta expected to rely on the players who fit his tactical vision and long-term objectives.
Sherif, who has enjoyed important moments during his time with Al Ahly, will now evaluate the available opportunities as he looks to continue his career elsewhere.
The striker had previously attracted interest from Egyptian Premier League side Al Masry, although an earlier proposal from the Port Said club was turned down. With his future at Al Ahly now uncertain, Al Masry could consider making another approach.
As the transfer window continues, Sherif’s next destination remains unclear, but the forward is expected to make a decision that will allow him to secure regular playing time and revive his career away from the Cairo giants.
