WAFCON 2026: We’ve fulfilled our mission – Cameroon’s Michaela Abam after quarterfinal qualification

Cameroon forward Michaela Abam says the Indomitable Lionesses have achieved their first target at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after securing qualification to the quarter-finals.

The Central African giants booked their place in the knockout stage following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ghana’s Black Queens on August 2 in their second Group D fixture.

The win maintained Cameroon’s impressive start to the tournament in Morocco, with the Central Africans sealing progression to the last eight with a game to spare.

Reflecting on the victory, Abam praised her teammates for their determination and insisted the team will continue with the same mentality as they push further in the competition.

“We have fulfilled our mission, which was to qualify for the next round. We’re carrying on with this mindset. We’re moving forward. We’re continuing to build,” Abam said.

The Cameroonian striker also acknowledged the quality of the Ghanaian side, describing the Black Queens as a strong team with talented players.

“Ghana have always had a strong squad. They have talented players; I know a few of them. It’s always a pleasure to play at this level against a team of such quality. It’s great because we got the result we wanted today.”

Cameroon will now turn their attention to their final group game as they look to strengthen their position ahead of the quarter-finals.
