Yan Diomande’s rise from Leganes to Real Madrid nears decisive stage

Yan Diomande is close to completing a move to Real Madrid from RB Leipzig, with only a number of administrative and sporting procedures still required before the deal can be finalised.

The Ivory Coast international has emerged as one of the most exciting young players in European football after attracting widespread attention at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His rapid progress has now put him on the verge of joining one of the biggest clubs in the game.

At the time, the significance of the performance was not fully understood. Although Diomande showed that he possessed something different, few would have predicted that his career would develop at such speed.

Only a year after stepping on to Spanish soil for the first time, the player’s market value is estimated at 90m euros by Transfermarkt. A potential transfer fee is expected to fall between 100m and 120m euros, underlining the scale of his rise and the level of interest in his services.

The move to Real Madrid is not yet formally complete, but the club is understood to be nearing the final stage of the process. The remaining work is described as administrative and sporting rather than a major obstacle to the transfer.

For Diomande, the prospect of returning to Santiago Bernabeu as a Real Madrid player would mark a dramatic change from his brief first visit to the stadium. That 10-minute appearance for Leganes came before he had established himself as one of the continent’s leading emerging talents.

His journey from arriving in Europe via Leganes to becoming a key player for RB Leipzig, starring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and moving within reach of Real Madrid has taken place in a remarkably short period.

The Bernabeu may therefore prove to have been more than the setting for Diomande’s first European appearance. It was the stage where his potential first became visible in Spain, and it could soon become the stadium where the next chapter of his career begins.
