Kompany gives Bayern trio permission to pursue moves away

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Joao Palhinha, Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza have been told they are not part of his plans for the current season and should seek new clubs before the summer transfer window closes.

The Belgium head coach revealed the decision during a news conference in which he discussed Bayern’s transfer activity and the restructuring of his squad. The club has formally informed all three players of its position in clear and direct terms.

Palhinha, the Portugal midfielder, France-born Turkey international Boey and Spain winger Zaragoza are now actively looking for a way to leave Bayern Munich before the transfer deadline.

Kompany said he welcomed the club’s approach to communicating the decision with the players, drawing on his own experiences during his playing career.

“I think that the club communicating clearly with the players is extremely positive. As a former player, I always wished for this kind of honesty and clarity from the clubs I played for,” he said.

The former Manchester City captain added that the club and coaching staff were fully aligned over the decision and had maintained their respect for the players involved.

“The club has issued a clear and honest statement to the players concerned, so we are completely in agreement with this approach. Most importantly, we are treating them with full respect and appreciate what they have given to the club in the past,” Kompany said.

Despite making it clear that the three players are not expected to feature in his plans, Kompany said Bayern Munich would continue to deal with them professionally while their futures remained unresolved.

“We will continue to work with them as usual and with complete professionalism. When difficult decisions are made, they must be explained clearly and honestly to everyone,” he said.

The Bayern manager acknowledged that the situation could still change while the transfer window remained open, although he did not provide details of possible destinations for Palhinha, Boey or Zaragoza.

“As long as the transfer window is open, the situation is completely clear to everyone, and after that we will see what happens, as is the case with everything else in life,” he said.

Kompany stressed that his main priority was now preparing the rest of the Bayern Munich squad for the season and ensuring the team was ready to meet its targets.

“But my main task is to train the team, prepare it for the season in the best possible way and achieve the objectives that have been set,” he added.

The decision forms part of Bayern Munich’s effort to reshape the squad before the summer transfer window shuts. With the club’s position now communicated directly to the three players, their next step is expected to centre on finding new teams before the deadline.
