Vozinha welcomed in Santiago as Colo-Colo move finally goes ahead

Vozinha has arrived in Chile to complete his transfer to Colo-Colo, ending uncertainty over the 40-year-old goalkeeper’s move after he cancelled an earlier flight to South America for personal reasons.

The Cape Verde international landed in the capital, Santiago, on Monday morning and was greeted by a large group of Chilean supporters. His arrival came after concerns that a problem might prevent the transfer from going ahead.

Vozinha, regarded as a hero of the World Cup for his performances in goal for Cape Verde, had been linked with a move to the Chilean club. However, the situation became unclear when he withdrew from his previous flight.

The goalkeeper’s arrival confirms that the transfer remains on course, despite reports over the weekend suggesting there could be competition for his signature. Moroccan club RS Berkane was cited on Saturday as a serious contender in the race connected with the move to Chile.

Colo-Colo are currently top of the Chilean championship, and Vozinha’s arrival gives the club an experienced goalkeeper as they continue their campaign. The veteran has most recently played for Portuguese club Chaves.

Before joining Chaves, Vozinha spent time with AS Trencin, AEL Limassol, Gil Vicente and Zimbru Chisinau, among other clubs. His career has included spells in several different European leagues before the move to South America.

Supporters gathered to welcome him when he reached Santiago, reflecting the attention surrounding the transfer and the reputation he built during Cape Verde’s World Cup campaign.

At 40, Vozinha brings considerable experience to Colo-Colo after a career that has taken him across Portugal, Slovakia, Cyprus and Moldova. His latest move will see him continue his career in Chile, with the club currently leading the domestic championship.

The initial uncertainty followed his decision to cancel his first flight for personal reasons, but Monday’s arrival means the goalkeeper is now in Chile to finalise his switch to Colo-Colo.
