Vozinha arrives in Chile ahead of Colo-Colo move

Vozinha, the Cabo Verde goalkeeper, has arrived in Chile to complete his move to Colo-Colo after his travel plans were delayed for a second time.

The 40-year-old was originally expected to land on Thursday evening, but the journey was postponed again. Colo-Colo’s official social-media accounts published photographs of the experienced goalkeeper arriving in the country as preparations began for his integration into the squad.

Vozinha is joining the Chilean club as a free agent. Colo-Colo president Anibal Mosa had previously confirmed the impending transfer in comments reported by Reuters.

“Vozinha will become a Colo-Colo player, and he will arrive in Chile in the coming days. He will undergo a medical and be presented at Estadio Monumental,” Mosa said.

The club had also released an image announcing that the Cabo Verde international was close to joining.

Vozinha will become the eighth African player to feature in Chile’s domestic competitions. He follows Cameroon’s Anthony El Hila, Nigeria’s Axel Ogedengbe, Cameroon’s Luc Besala, Cameroon’s Francis Meye, Mauritania’s Dodo Toure, Nigeria’s Felix Abuchi and Ivory Coast’s Frank Ahouli.

The goalkeeper attracted widespread attention during the 2026 World Cup, where he represented Cabo Verde and helped his country reach the round of 32 for the first time in its history.

Cabo Verde progressed from the group stage after drawing all three of their matches and finishing second behind Spain. Their campaign ended in the round of 32.

Vozinha’s performances at the tournament also brought a dramatic rise in his social-media following. He began the World Cup with only about 50,000 followers on Instagram, but that figure has since climbed to almost 29 million.

He received strong public support throughout Cabo Verde’s World Cup run and was among the players to benefit most from the surge in interest generated by social media.

The move to Colo-Colo comes after the goalkeeper had also been linked with a transfer to Inter Miami. His most recent club experience came with Portuguese side Chaves, where he spent two seasons.

Colo-Colo are currently top of the Chilean league with 39 points after 16 rounds. They hold a seven-point advantage over their nearest challengers.

Vozinha’s arrival therefore gives the league leaders an experienced international goalkeeper as they continue their campaign, while also marking another stage in a remarkable period of attention for the veteran following Cabo Verde’s historic World Cup progress.
