CAF announces $100,000 solidarity payment for clubs eliminated in interclub preliminary rounds

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that clubs eliminated during the preliminary rounds of its Interclub competitions will each receive a solidarity payment of USD 100,000 as part of efforts to support teams across the continent.

The financial initiative is aimed at providing greater assistance to clubs that participate in CAF’s prestigious club competitions but exit before reaching the group stages.

It forms part of CAF’s broader strategy to strengthen club structures, improve competitiveness, and ensure that more teams benefit from the growth of African football.

CAF’s Interclub competitions, including the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, attract clubs from across Africa, with many teams facing significant financial challenges during their continental campaigns.

By introducing the solidarity payment, CAF hopes to ease some of the financial burdens associated with participation, while encouraging more clubs to compete at the highest level.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has consistently highlighted the importance of investing in clubs as a key pillar of the organisation’s development agenda.

According to CAF, the support reflects its commitment to expanding opportunities for clubs and ensuring that the benefits of African football’s commercial and sporting growth reach a wider number of teams.

The move is expected to provide a major boost to clubs, particularly those from smaller leagues, as they continue to build capacity and compete against more established sides in CAF competitions.
