Tunisia centre-back Montasser Toumi joins ES Metlaoui on free transfer

Montasser Toumi, the 32-year-old Tunisia centre-back, has joined ES Metlaoui from Al-Nojoom on a free transfer.

Toumi has signed a contract with the Ligue 1 club running until 30 June 2028, completing his return to Tunisian football after a spell in Saudi Arabia. He becomes part of an ES Metlaoui side for which he is registered as a defender and will wear the number 34 shirt.

The right-footed defender left Al-Nojoom after one season, having moved to the Saudi club from Al-Anwar on a free transfer in July 2025. His latest switch was completed on 2 August 2026.

Toumi’s most recent competitive record includes three appearances in the Tunisian Cup and three in the Ligue Professionnelle 1 relegation competition. He played 270 minutes in each tournament.

Standing at 1.93m, Toumi offers ES Metlaoui experience at centre-back and returns to a Tunisian football system where he has spent much of his career. Before moving abroad, he played for Al-Anwar, Al-Rawdah SC, AS Marsa, EGS Gafsa and Sfax Railways.

His move to Al-Anwar in August 2024 followed a spell with Al-Rawdah SC, which he joined from AS Marsa in July 2023. Toumi had previously moved to AS Marsa from EGS Gafsa in July 2022, while his time at EGS Gafsa began after leaving Sfax Railways in October 2020.

The defender’s arrival gives ES Metlaoui a senior option in the centre of defence as the club competes in Ligue 1. His career has included time in both Tunisian and Saudi football, with each of his last two moves completed without a transfer fee.

Toumi’s return to Tunisia is now formalised through a two-year contract with ES Metlaoui, which runs until the end of June 2028.
